Javelin Surface to Air Missile UK

The Canadian Forces purchased the Javelin to replace the Blowpipe for deployment in the First Gulf War (1990–1991). The Javelin is a British-made, lightweight, surface-to-air missile system (SAM). It was in Canadian service from 1990 to 2005.

Soldiers fired the Javelin from a single-shoulder launcher, multiple LML launchers, or adapted vehicle mounts. After firing, the operator could guide the missile to the target using the guidance controls.

Canadian warships added the Javelin to deter enemy deployments to the Persian Gulf during the First Gulf War (1990-1991). Gunners from the 119 Air Defense Battery deployed the missile from single-shoulder and multiple LML launchers. The Canadian Forces retired the Javelin in 2005 without a replacement.
