ADATS CDN

The Air Defense Anti-Tank System (ADATS) is a dual-purpose, short-range, surface-to-air, anti-tank missile system. The ADATS uses laser-guided supersonic missiles with an electro-optical sensor. Oerlikon Contraves manufactured the gun in Zurich, Switzerland.

The ADATS entered Canadian Army service in 1989 when Canada sent 36 systems to West Germany as part of Canada’s NATO contribution. The ADATS’s expensive development and maintenance gave the system a short service life, with an initial price of $650 million. By the time Canada retired the system in 2012, its total cost had reached over $1 billion.

This ADATS came from the Air Defence School at CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick.
