QF 2 Pounder MK IX & X UK

The QF 2 Pounder Anti-Tank Gun MK IX was the most powerful anti-tank gun in the world when introduced in 1937. Vickers and Woolwich Arsenal designed the 2 Pounder as an anti-tank weapon deployed on a field carriage or armoured vehicle.

The British approved the QF 2 Pounder MK IX for operational service in 1937. An anti-tank round fired from the 2 Pounder could penetrate 42mm of armour at a 30-degree slope at 1,000 yards. In June 1940, at Dunkirk, the German Army captured and took examples of the 2 Pounder back to Germany. By 1942, more than the 2 Pounder was required to defeat heavily armoured German tanks.

In 1939, the QF 2 Pounder MK IX was the first anti-tank gun issued to the Canadian Army. However, Canada did not use it in combat. The QF 6 Pounder Anti-Tank Gun replaced the 2 Pounder in 1942.
